Mr. Francis D'Souza FOR THIS I HAVE JESUS
FOR THIS I HAVE JESUS

Life is full of blessings, hopes and opportunities. No one is exempt from its challenges, struggles, hardships, uncertainties, trials, job losses, financial reverses, sicknesses, loss of loved ones and friends, etc. etc.

The former are acceptable and warmly welcomed and we look forward for them eagerly. The problem however is with the latter. They cast a gloom over us, rendering us unenthusiastic, making us rather pessimistic in our outlook. And in addition they fill us with tension, worry, and anxiety.

Against this back drop, it will be indeed assuring and consoling to know that from of old, God has been protecting his people by either building walls around his people or by himself surrounding them.

In the book of Exodus we read that His people crossed over the Red Sea as on dry ground with walls of water to the right of them and to the left of them. In the book of Job the devil accuses God of being partial to Job in that He has built a hedge around him and kept him and all his belongings safe. Through the prophet Zechariah, God tells us that He Himself will be like a wall of fire around his people as well as in the Psalms, we read that like the mountains surround Jerusalem so also God Himself surrounds His people.  In like manner, Jesus, the Son of God is continuing the work His Father has been doing.

The following article gives us the secret to face any situation that may come our way.

In an evangelistic meeting in Ireland, the speaker was explaining what it means to abide in Christ and to trust Him completely in every trial. Concluding his message, he repeated several times, "IT MEANS THAT IN EVERY CIRCUMSTANCE YOU CAN KEEP ON SAYING, ‘FOR THIS I HAVE JESUS.’ "
The meeting was then opened for testimonies. One young woman said, "Just a few minutes ago I was handed this telegram. It reads, ‘Mother is very ill; take train home immediately.’ When I saw those words, I knew that tonight’s message was meant just for me. My heart looked up and said, ‘For this I have Jesus.’ Instantly a peace and strength flooded my soul."
Three or four weeks later the evangelist received a letter from this woman. It read, "Thank you again for the message you gave that day. LIFE HAS BECOME AN UNINTERRUPTED PSALM OF VICTORY, FOR I HAVE COME TO REALIZE THAT NO MATTER WHAT LIFE BRINGS, FOR THIS I HAVE JESUS."

In the same way millions of people around the world will testify that they have found great strength and courage to face problems because of Jesus. The reason why this happens is because of the Person of Jesus, Power of Jesus, and the Promises of Jesus.

Person of Jesus:
The Bible tells us that all things were created through Jesus, in Jesus, by Jesus, for Jesus and not only that all things hold together in Him. He is the absolute Creator and hence He is the master of everything. (Cf. John 1:3 and Col 1:16-17). Further, all power and authority has been given over to him and hence everything is under his control and nothing happens without his knowledge. (cf. Matt 28:18, Eph 1:20-23)

In the Gospel of St John, Jesus himself tells us that He is the Bread of Life - the Light of the World - the Door to the Sheep - the Good Shepherd - the Resurrection and the Life - the Way, the Truth, and the Life – the Real Vine. He has not only provided for our after- life needs but also for our day to day needs. Hence Jesus, the Son of God is our sufficiency (2 Cor. 3:5) and so we can join in with the hymn writer who says “we have everything when we have Christ”

Power of Jesus:
As we go through the Bible we see so many miracles Jesus worked while on earth. Someone has counted and put the number at forty-one. But on reading John 20:30 we know Jesus had done many more miraculous signs. Not only that he continues to work miracles through his people and to add to this he has told us in John 14:12 that we will not only do the works that he did but greater things we shall do.

The miracles found in the Gospel of John tell us what we need to remember when we are going through crises because He is Lord overall. He truly is the Lord of the impossible who can write straight on crooked lines and draw good from the bad.

Turning water into wine (John 2) - Lord of nature
Healing of the nobleman’s son: distance healing (John 4) - Lord of distance
Healing of the man who was paralysed sick for 38 years (John 5) - Lord of time
Multiplication of loaves and fish (John 6) – Lord of production
Walking on the water (John 6) - Lord of Nature
Healing of the man born blind (John 9) - Lord of the impossible
Raising of Lazarus from the dead (John 11) - Lord of life and death

Promises of Jesus:
Jesus has made countless promises in the Bible and they are indeed endearing and heart- warming. What is even more is that like the Father He is not just a promise making God but also a promise keeping God. He is faithful in all that he says and does. A look at some of the promises will really be a boost to our faith and thus help us to trust him more confidently.

Matt 7:7-8 "Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. 8 For everyone who asks receives; he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks, the door will be opened.

Matt 18:19-20 "Again, I tell you that if two of you on earth agree about anything you ask for, it will be done for you by my Father in heaven. 20 For where two or three come together in my name, there am I with them."

Matt 28:20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age."

John 6:37 All that the Father gives me will come to me, and whoever comes to me I will never drive away.

John 14:13-14 And I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Son may bring glory to the Father. 14 You may ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it.

John 14:16 And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Counselor to be with you forever-

John 14:18 I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you

Following are the other Scriptures why we can confidently say “For this I have Jesus.”

Heb 7:25 Therefore he is able to save completely those who come to God through him, because he always lives to intercede for them.

Heb 4:15-16 For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are-yet was without sin. 16 Let us then approach the throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.

If every circumstance finds us abiding in Christ, we will find Christ abiding with us in every circumstance.

Brother, sister if you are enduring a great trial of affliction, look at that situation and say - For this I have Jesus!
FOR THIS I HAVE JESUS (Graham Kendrick)
For the joys and for the sorrows/The best and worst of times/
For this moment, for tomorrow/For all that lies behind/
Fears that crowd around me/For the failure of my plans/
For the dreams of all I hope to be/The truth of what I am

For this I have Jesus
For this I have Jesus
For this I have Jesus, I have Jesus (Repeat)
