WHO CAN ENDURE THE DAY OF HIS COMING (Scripture Reflection Malachi 3:2)
When the audit notice arrives everyone scurries to comply with the norms and achieve all the standards laid down. This is exactly how I felt when in April 2016 doctors found signs of cancer in me. Notice of judgement seemed to have been served. I made a good confession and set my relationships right so as to be ready for surgery and treatment. The prospect of perhaps meeting my Judge and King filled me with awe! We are indeed called to be ready for the coming of our Lord and Master (Mal 3:1-2). But can we endure it? Can we survive?
How do we need to prepare ourselves?
Knowing human frailty, God sent Jesus in human form, so his death could free us from Satan's grip (Heb 2:14-16). Since Jesus was also tempted and suffered, he understands and helps us. This is a very comforting and empowering prospect – to have Jesus by our side. But, ‘who can endure’ (Focus)?
If we open wide the gates of our hearts (today’s Psalm) we definitely will because the power of the Holy Spirit will cleanse, lead and guide us to our heavenly abode, where we will meet our Creator. Until then we can strive to be like Simeon – led by the Spirit, ‘righteous and devout’ (Lk 2:25).
Fruit: Let us make every attempt to be good and God fearing, so that we may be able to endure and survive Judgement Day.
