I AM HUMBLE IN HEART
(Scripture Reflection Matthew 11:29)"Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls"
A heart is richly symbolic in most cultures. It signifies love – of a lover or parent. When we meditate on the divine love and Sacred Heart of Jesus we find peace, wisdom, consolation and grace. His love is quite unlike the commercial, selfish love that’s advertised. It is total, unconditional and forever. Indeed, God sacrificed his only Son for love of humanity (Jn 3:16).
Jesus, “gentle and humble in heart” (Focus) was obedient till death to bring us mercy, grace, and rest for our souls (Mt 11:29). All our faults are forgiven, all our weaknesses are accepted, and all our impurities are purified by his love and mercy – the font of our salvation.
It is this love of Jesus that inspires and moves us to love him in return, and our neighbour as ourselves. Love for God makes us accept life’s burdens. We bend to Jesus’ yoke and become obedient to the Father’s will. As we share in God’s wisdom and grace we are drawn closer to Jesus and can willingly share his cross in service of his will.
The Eucharist is a reminder of the suffering and death of Christ. Our communion with him in this sacrament strengthens us to do our duty and repair the damage we may have done through selfishness.
Fruit: Let us make reparation and firmly resolve to love God and our neighbour.
