WHAT IS THE KINGDOM OF GOD LIKE.
(Scripture Reflection Luke 13:18)Thus Jesus asked, “What is the kingdom of God like? To what should I compare it?
“The kingdom of God” (Focus) is where people lead by example. This was characteristic of the early Church, as is seen in passages of Acts like ‘Day by day the Lord added to their number those who were being saved’ (Acts 2:47).
How do we become ‘kingdom citizens’? Perhaps the best way is to be “like a mustard seed that someone took and sowed in the garden” (Lk 13:19) – to decrease so that the Lord may increase. When we put aside our ideas and allow God to take over our lives, we change. St Teresa of Kolkata was a sign of what a true Christian should be. Nearer home, we have the example of St Joseph Vaz. And Sr Jane, who died in April, also left such a good model to emulate. But saints like these are very few compared to millions of us.
Are we growing into the image of Christ like the saints did? In reality perhaps we are headed in the opposite direction. Generally speaking we do not often give a good account of ourselves. And the CCC says that the bad example of some of us takes others away from God.
Each of us should draw others to Christ. I wish more of us would by producing good fruit and spreading the fragrance of Jesus.
Fruit: Let us be like the little mustard seed that can transform the evil world around us into God’s own kingdom.
