THROUGH PERSECUTIONS ENTER GODS KINGDOM.
(Scripture Reflection Acts 14:22)
Trials, tribulations, persecution… who wants them? St Paul was stoned and left for dead (First Reading). We may not be in similar danger, but things or people we get excessively attached to can separate us from Jesus and prevent us from being serene. However, pondering and discerning with the help of the Holy Spirit can help us experience the true peace that only Jesus gives.
How aware are we that life is more than just working to earn more? How conscious are we that it is about being kind, humane, understanding and courteous, rather than accumulating wealth?
It is important for us to know our abilities and accept our shortcomings and work on them all the time. We must realise that we need to keep a balance between family life, career and social life, and give first place to God, rather than just joining the rat race, or being the richest person around, or owning the grandest house in the locality.
Hence today’s Focus is not a punishment or curse but an invitation and exhortation to enter the bliss and peace of Jesus – that is, the kingdom of God. Only Jesus provides us a safe path through this difficult world – a roadmap of life to make us emerge strong and victorious.
Fruit: Can I start today, now, to make a list of things that separate me from Christ and try and overcome them?
