HE BEGAN TO TEACH IN THE SYNAGOGUE(Scripture Reflection Mark 6:2)"On the sabbath he began to teach in the synagogue"
Most of us think of a job in terms of office hours. It is common to find government officials ‘not reachable’ because it’s their ‘off’ or break time.
As a lay person how do I transmit my faith? Do I restrict it to catechism class on Sunday in church? Jesus though God and high priest was also a lay person like us. But his life was his vocation. So he taught in the synagogue (Focus), and he taught every day, everywhere.
My home is part of the Church – a good place to begin ‘looking to Jesus the pioneer and perfecter of our faith’ (Heb 12:2). Can I roll up my sleeves this week and teach values to my family? Can I teach the value of listening to other people, respecting and appreciating them? Make an effort to understand their emotions and difficulties ‘so that what is lame’ may not be (disabled), but rather be healed’ (Heb 12:13)?
Can I instil the need to appreciate, to say “Thank you” with a smile to the market vendor or grocery shop staff? Encourage someone and raise their spirit with positive feedback? Teach to respect waiters when we eat out? Teach to comfort the afflicted, the migrants around us? Teach to give alms caringly to the beggar or needy person?
Fruit: I will teach values through my daily behaviour and also discuss with my family members the importance of doing so.
