GOD'S KINGDOM COME
(Scripture Reflection Matthew 6:10)
" Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven."
The Our Father is one of the first prayers we learn. And we think it is so easy because we can parrot it from the tip of the tongue! But living the prayer and especially the Focus is more difficult.
As we toil in God’s mission field in Africa we share St Paul’s passion about mission. We feel his ‘divine jealousy’ for the believers and the deep desire to present them holy, pure and chaste to Christ the eternal Bridegroom, always alert to being deceived as they walk the way of Jesus (2 Cor 11:2-3). For in the villages we observe the traditional practices, beliefs, anxieties, and needs of the people. We present Jesus as the ultimate answer to all their concerns. We depend totally on their response to God’s grace which flows exceedingly as we love them on this, their journey in Christ. Our hearts yearn for them to receive and accept Jesus as Lord – that they may desire to be transformed by his word. Our only prayer is that they love Christ, live Christ, and share Christ to the fullest, and may not be deceived by lures of money or power.
‘The love of Christ urges us on’ (2 Cor 5:14) despite trials, adversity, discomforts, and longings for family and community back home.
Fruit: As we pray the Our Father today, let us remember the missionaries, especially those from India working in many parts of the world.
