The month of September holds very dear for most of us as we celebrate the birthday of our Blessed Mother Mary. In preparation for the nativity of our Blessed Virgin Mary we have seen thousands of pilgrims flock to the churches and shrines devoted to Mary. Our Mother’s main care and concern is to draw all her children to her beloved Son Jesus. Mary points out to her Son and says, “Do whatever he tells you” (John 2:5). The point to ponder for us is ‘do we really do whatever her Son Jesus tells us to do?’ If we are listening to her son Jesus then we are walking in the footsteps of Mary but if we are not then all our Marian devotions will be worthless.
It’s time to ponder once again on the Mission statement of the Catholic Charismatic Renewal of being Disciples, Intercessors and Evangelizers (D.I.E) for Jesus in and through the power of the Holy Spirit, takes us a step further as we at our recent Bombay Service Team have decided to add the Holy Scripture to our Mission Statement and now the D.I.E turns into D.I.E.S. In order to become the Disciples of Jesus we have to follow Jesus closely just as his apostles left everything and followed Jesus. And in order to follow Jesus closely we have to be the “Doers of the Word’ and in order to be doers of the word we need to study and understand the Word of God.By learning the Word of God our relationship with Jesus will be strengthened. The word of God cleanses us, as Jesus said to his apostles, “You have already been cleansed by the word that I have spoken to you” (John 15:3). Once we are cleansed by the word of God we will become even greater intercessors and evangelizers.. I’m sure reading and reflecting daily upon the Scriptures and by our love for the scriptures, the Charismatic Renewal will experience an even greater revival. “It is the Spirit that gives life, the flesh is useless, the Words that I have spoken to you are spirit and life” (John 6:63). The BST desires that all faithful attending the various prayer groups should grow in learning and knowing the Word of God. The Word of God should transform us and we should be renewed people. The teachings in the prayer groups should be based on the Word of God.
The Words of Jesus give us life. Remember the three T’s of the Word of God; The Word of God Touches, Teaches and Transforms our life. Once we are Touched by the word of God we are on the right track which leads us to be Transformed. Let us then ask Mary our Mother to intercede for us that we may become true Disciples of Christ and powerful Intercessors and Evangelizers through the power of God’s word. The Holy Spirit will help us achieve this so that we become true followers and witnesses of Christ.
